G'day neighbours! On November 9th, we announced the Melbourne arm of the Zendesk Neighbor Foundation. As with our other offices, we officially noted our community intentions through the presentation of our Melbourne Community Agreement. While we do have global initiatives, each Community Agreement is a bit different in its intended impact area depending on the pressing issues in each office location. Our Melbourne Community Agreement is focused on workforce diversification and development.
Specifically, the agreement states that our Melbourne office is committed to support to organizations that are working to promote workforce development with underserved and under-resourced populations in the community such as indigenous Australians, those with disabilities, and women in the technology fields.
The historical disparity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is still topical today with only 59% of Indigenous 20-24 year olds having completed year 12, compared with 88% of non-Indigenous Australians. As an office and a foundation we are committed to supporting and collaborating with organizations who are focused on improving employment opportunities for indigenous Australian populations.
We will continue our support of the Purple Lion Foundation and other organizations that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through volunteering and financial support. Additionally, we are committed to hiring at least one office coordinator who is a person from the developmentally disabled community.
Lastly, our Melbourne office has committed to increase our female software engineers from 10% to 15-20%. We plan on doing this by supporting organizations such as Girl Geek Dinners, Women Who Code, and other groups that are promoting women in the tech field.
As for specific numbers we are committing to, we will grant at least AUD $100,000 to local non-profits and community organizations. In addition, we will provide at least 1,000 hours of volunteer services by at least 90% of our Melbourne employees through 2016.
We are looking forward to fostering our current relationships and expanding our community impact with our neighbors in Melbourne.
