Our First HeadStart Interns of 2016

On January 19th, we held our first Team London HeadStart training night in our London office with just under 30 young adult attendees.  Within a few days, we had 17 young people apply for a week of work experience with our teams in Marketing, Workplace Experience, Support, Sales, Success and Recruitment.  After reviewing all the incredible candidates, we were able to offer seven positions to intern for the week with our team.

On their first day, the interns excitedly jumped right in to learning all about Zendesk, the different departments and how they work together. They then spent the rest of their week with their team learning valuable skills for roles within those departments.  Some of our interns learned how to create an app, design a presentation, run a small internal office event and find the perfect candidate from their CV and Linkedin.  Not only were they all eager and ready to learn all about their teams, Recruiting also lead a workshop on writing CV’s and setting up professional Linkedin profiles. Many employees are now connected with their interns, both impressing our office as well as allowing for the interns to continue being professionally associated to Zendesk.

All seven of the interns worked hard and there was one intern in particular that made a huge impression on his team, Ashish. He spent his week with the Support team, learning all about the support processes, which is fundamental to our business success. Ashish set up his own Zendesk account, including integrating Twitter and Zopim, created his own Help Center based around his own organization and even developed his very own iPhone app!   


Not only did Ashish create all of this, he surprised the team by presenting his work at the end of the week to the Director of  CustomerAdvocacy, EMEA, Support Manager and a few of the Support team members. He finished his presentation with the iPhone app, which included a fully functional YouTube video, the ability to browse his Help Centre, submit tickets. He was even able to include a message in a ticket, thanking the Support team for everything, which blew them all away.

We absolutely loved having our interns liven up the office for the week. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn created such a buzz around the office and we were all sad to see them go at the end of the week.  We are currently working on our next HeadStart workshop and planning for our next round of Summer Interns, which we can hardly wait for!
