Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the San Francisco Chapter of Cycling Without Age in partnership with Curry Senior Center. Cycling Without Age is a non-profit with the mission to improve the lives of the elderly people through bike riding. The idea is that volunteers will take seniors out for a ride through the city on custom trishaw bicycles. With the simple goal of making everyone smile through storytelling, slowing down and generosity, Cycling Without Age creates unique relationships between people as they bike all over town.
The founder of Cycling Without Age, Ole Kassow, was here to kick off the day. The morning began with an overview of the program followed by a film screening “The Grey Escape” about the Cycling Without Age ride from Denmark to Norway. The film featured two charismatic seniors, Finn and Marie, who shared a trishaw and some charming banter for the 4-day adventure. Then with the help from some of the seniors from Curry, our employees tested the bikes out!
Two of the iconic red trishaws, cleverly named Finn and Marie after the group saw the film, will live with Curry Senior Center. Volunteers - including weekly Zendesk employees - will have the opportunity to take seniors out for rides around the city. These ‘pilots’ pedal wherever the seniors desire and perhaps history will be uncovered during long ride through Golden Gate Park or along the Embarcadero to see the seals.
